4.4.10

just finished making this stupid poster for a large part of my day

... only to figure out a few hours into it (I had a particularly tough time deciding what to do today, normally I can crank out a flyer in less than half an hour) that somebody recently submitted a flyer to the posterflyer tumblr with the exact same illustration in the background... Oops. It's so hard these days to find the sources of things, I saved the image as one of many onto my hard drive from Tumblr a long fucking time ago, and I just have this stock of potential flyer background images because who knows when you need to make a last-minute flyer, right?

I mean I modified it from its original form, removed some blood splatter in places and added some in others (the original illustration as I found it isn't as wide), as well as making it greyscale and working the levels until it looked right, so I guess it's not totally stealing - I assume the other person probably came cross the illustration the same way as me, in the random annals of the internet. Here is the format in which I have the flyer saved on my computer:

Now here's the version I found on posterflyer:

Different city and the fact that I modified mine means it's not stealing, right? RIGHT? Anyway, I'm putting it all out in the open at this point, I'm not even booking this fucking show and there is no way I will ever get so much as a cent out of it, so hopefully if the art was created originally for the poster, which I somehow doubt it was (I think the flyer above is pretty explicitly an web-only poster for forums and myspace, etc.), the artist would understand their art being used without explicit permission for something as modest as a punk show.

DON'T FUCKING KILL ME and I totally refuse to redo it tonight. I had another version with a different image altogether, a cut-and-paste one prepared and all printed, but no glue. FML

I might redo it tomorrow I guess.
